SMSCs LAN8710 and LAN8720 are high-performance, low-power, small footprint 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX transceivers specifically designed for todays consumer electronics, industrial and enterprise applications. The LAN8710/LAN8720 are the industrys smallest footprint solutions with more than 40% lower power consumption saving than existing transceivers. The LAN8710/8720 have integrated voltage regulator and ESD protection components to help reduce Bill of Material (BOM) costs.

The LAN8710 interfaces to the MAC layer using a variable voltage digital interface via the standard MII and the LAN8720 interfaces via a reduced RMII interface. Both devices support HP Auto-MDIX, employ SMSCs proprietary flexPWR technology and are available in both extended commercial and industrial temperature range options. SMSCs complimentary LANCheck online design review service is available for customers who have selected our products for their application design-in*.

The LAN8720/LAN8720i is compliant with IEEE 802.3-2005 standards (RMII Pins tolerant to 3.6V) and supports both IEEE 802.3-2005 compliant and vendor-specific register functions. It contains a fullduplex 10-BASE-T/100BASE-TX transceiver and supports 10-Mbps (10BASE-T) operation, and 100-Mbps (100BASE-TX) operation. The LAN8720/LAN8720i can be configured to operate on a single 3.3V supply utilizing an integrated 3.3V to 1.2V linear regulator. An option is available to disable the linear

regulator to optimize system designs that have a 1.2V power supply available. This allows for the use of a high efficiency external regulator for lower system power dissipation.

EVB8720:Ethernet PHY Evaluation Board

Introduction

The EVB8720 is a PHY Evaluation Board (EVB) that interfaces a MAC controller to the LAN8720 Ethernet PHY via a standard 40-pin MII connector (adapted for use in RMII configuration). The LAN8720 is connected to an RJ-45/Integrated Magnetics Ethernet Jack for 10/100 connectivity.

Product Description

The EVB8720 is designed to plug into a users Ethernet MAC test system using a 40-pin MII connector. The MII connector used on the EVB8720 is an AMP 40-pin right-angle through-hole MII connector (i.e., AMP P/N 6-5174218-2). The mating connector is an AMP P/N 6-5174217-2.
