Product Overview
The Intel® CE 9518 DVB-T TNIM reference design is a complete DVB-T digital terrestrial front end
built around the Intel® CE 6353 high-performance COFDM demodulator and the Philips* TD1316
DVB-T hybrid tuner,* including an RF loop-through and tuner with IF section. It is designed specifically
for digital terrestrial network interface modules (TNIMs) or “on-motherboard” set top box (STB) implementations.

This reference design allows customers to quickly and cost-effectively evaluate and implement the
DVB-T standard in their STB designs. Software is supported directly by Intel, with a complete suite
of documentation and test results accompanying each reference design. The Intel CE 9518 DVB-T
reference design offers excellent signal-handling performance and low power consumption.

Intel® CE 9518 DVB-T TNIM Reference Design with Philips* Application
The Intel CE 9518 DVB-T TNIM front-end application board addresses the high-performance
requirements defi ned by the NorDig Unifi ed digital terrestrial standard.

Incoming digital terrestrial signals are fed via the Philips tuner/IF module to the “on-board” Intel CE
6353 COFDM demodulator for channel coding to MPEG transport stream output. The tuner’s RF
automatic gain control (AGC) is monitored, allowing RF signal strength to be recorded via the Intel CE
6353 DVB-T COFDM demodulator’s 2-wire serial bus control.
The Intel CE 9518 DVB-T TNIM reference board requires only a single 5-volt supply; all other power rails are generated on board. The device is optimized for real in-field terrestrial environmental conditions.
